After reading a few of the one and two star reviews I'm going to suppose that when those readers got wind of a "romance" between the ghost and the hunter they would be treated to a Twilight re-tread. No! Thank the heavens and the praise the saints of good authors this is not so! Kendare Blake has managed to come up with a brilliantly unique take on the paranormal, ghost busting and the laws of attraction.

But what I really loved about Blake's writing is her intent on telling a really good story, this is not another novel written in screenplay format with fingers crossed that it gets picked up for a movie deal. Blake has a wonderfully developed universe in her head and she plays it out on the page old school in character development, a well plotted storyline with several surprise twists and she dare's to focus on the grisly details of a good ghost story making this a horror story first with a dash of romance much to the lead characters chagrin. (trustme that part is actually touching and funny, right in the middle of a blood bath.)

I not only couldn't put this down but this is a keeper and my fingers are crossed on the sequel, but I have to add that even if the sequel is not so hot this is a fantastic stand alone novel. And I will most definetly be checking out Blake's other novels if the others are as good as this one I'm ticked that I have not discovered her sooner.

Cas is a ghost hunter. He and his mother move around to new places in search of ghosts. Some are ghosts people report seeing and want to get rid of them, and some are ghost Cas happens upon. Cas's mother is a witch, that comes in very handy during some very crucial moments in this book. Cas's late father was a ghost hunter as well, and when he died his weapon called an athame was passed onto Cas.

Cas has been summoned to another town that is haunted by a horrible ghost that has been killing people for 60 years. Anna.

Cas's introduction to Anna was by a group of people at a party he went to "to get to know" people. Cas starts asking questions about if the town is haunted (which he knows it is, but he wants to gather as much info as possible). The kids start going on about this house that is haunted by a ghost they call Anna Dressed in Blood. The kids tell Cas that once someone goes into Anna's house they never come out. A few town Jocks and a friend he just met decide to drive to Anna's house to scare Cas.

What follows is an interesting story. This book kept me on my toes. I wish I could say it scared the pants off me, but it didn't. Although it was a really, really good book. Once Cas meets Anna, the whole town seems to be turned upside down. Cas cannot figure out what makes Anna the way she is. She is a killing machine.

While Cas has faced Anna she proves to be far more difficult to kill than he planned on.

I cannot even say much more, because I know I will give too much away. I don't know if it was because I listened to it, and the narrator sounded very young, but it wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be. It was more suspenseful. It was very well done. I enjoyed it from the minute I started and it was always hard to turn off.

If you like "ghost" stories this will be a great one to pick up and read. There is a lot going on in the book. It's a lot of fun to follow. I am anxious to see what the next installment brings )!

Cas' father was gruesomely murdered by a ghost and now he carries his father's powerful athame traveling the country with his mom who's a witch and their ghost sniffing cat following local legends of murderous ghosts.
After moving to Thunder Bay following a lead of local legend, Anna Dressed in Blood, he comes to find out he has no easy task and Anna isn't no ordinary murdering ghost he's faced.
With the help of his new unintended friends, he digs deeper into finding out who and what Anna is about and how to kill her, but the further he digs, the more attached he gets. And Anna isn't all he has to worry about, his father's murderous ghost has followed him and now Cas and his friends are facing what could be their death.
This was a great read, I really enjoyed it. I was on the edge of my seat turning pages like a mad woman anxious as to find out what's going to happen next. This book has everything I enjoy, ghosts, witches, voodoo, gruesome ghostly murders with a smidge of love interest. I got a kick out of some of the references to some favorite movies in the story without the eye socket punch of title dropping which felt smoothly placed in the story without taken anything away.
I almost wish there was a deeper look into who Cas is, what he's about besides his ghost hunting side to feel a deeper connection to his character.
Thomas was a cool character.
I'm definitely looking forward to picking up more books by this author.
A ghost story with well developed characters involving Theseus (Cas) a 17 year old who with his white witch mother travel from town to town hunting down ghosts who are killing the living. Cas has taken up the job his late father did until he was killed. They move to Thunder Bay where he is targeting Anna, the ghost of a 16 year old killed in 1958 and has killed 27 teenagers that enter her abandoned haunted house. Cas who has lived an isolated life, has for the first time made 2 high school friends who help him discover why Anna has become so powerful and vengeful with the goal of getting rid of her to negate her killing spree. But Anna isn't your typical ghost and actually communicates with Cas who feels an attraction to her. Can the living have a romantic relationship with the dead? This story has an ending, but leads the way onto a second book.
