This calendar's dozen examples, by Alton Kelley, Victor Moscoso, Stanley Mouse, and others--accompanied by listings of notable events in late-sixties rock history--will transport you back to the magic that Helms called 'the best thing that happened in the late twentieth century.'

The Avalon Ballroom was one of the prime San Francisco venues for rock in the late 1960s and - like the Fillmore - had elaborate advertising posters created to promote their concerts. This calendar reproduces 12 of these - though on a smaller scale. Well known artists like Van Morrison and The Grateful Dead are advertised here along with what must have been a great double-bill of Bo Diddley and Big Brother and the Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin). Quicksilver Messenger Service gets TWO headline posters (and another with them as an "undercard" act). I would have preferred that one of the QMS be replaced by a different act, but it's a small quibble.The calendar also acts as a "this day in rock" reference with listings of major events included on the date section. Many of these completely fill the date space.
A nice gift for the psychedelic fan.
